Frequently Asked Questions

How did this site get started?

The content for this site was developed in 1998 while I was working at Nagoya City University in Japan. I wanted to help my EFL students develop both language and cultural proficiency while using English as the vehicle of instruction. After review the class, students felt the content gave them opportunities to interact with the outside world beyond the confines of the classroom.

Now, the material on this site is a general reference for teachers and students to use as part of their classes online.

Who is the intended audience for this site?

I orginally created this site specifically for learners of English as a second or foreign language at the intermediate level, but teachers have found it a great resource as well. The first part of the Internet course focuses on the basics (the history of the Internet, search engines, e-mail, etc.) and then progresses to web page construction.

Is this site free to use?

Yes. Everything is free to use online. See the Copyright Restrictions for more information about the use of these materials.
