Two months ago, the world was overwhelmed by grief as gory pictures of the dead and survivors of the earthquake in Haiti were beamed by the media. Though the devastation happened months ago, it still lives on in the hearts of members of Christ Embassy. They recently staged a grand charity concert to raise funds for Haiti children.

The musical concert tagged Hope Haiti Concert: Mission for the children was organised by the Inner City Mission of Christ Embassy, a non-governmental organization that caters for the need of under-privileged children.

The musical concert held under a spiritual atmosphere at the ultra modern Loveworld Convocation Arena, Billings Way, Ikeja, Lagos.
Weeks before the concert, tickets had been sold to members of the public at Christ Embassy branches nationwide. Proceeds from the sales, Pastor Doyin Ikeoku of the concerts’ publicity unit, had earlier stated during an awareness programme that the funds would be sent to Haiti to cater for children in the country.

“The massive earthquake left Haiti, which is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, in shambles. Children were adversely affected as many children became orphaned, malnourished and exposed to different dangerous vices. “The Haitians are in critical need of help and Christ Embassy is at the frontline of raising funds for relief materials, missionary activities and aid to assist them at a time like this.

“We are placing emphasis on children because they are the most vulnerable and if they are not helped, the image would be imprinted on their minds and end up damaging their perception of the world generally.
“The church intends to use the ticket proceeds to procure the much needed relief materials to the children of Haiti, most of whom lost their parents, guardians and relations. These children represent the most vulnerable group of those affected by the natural disaster,” she stated.

The atmosphere inside the expansive hall was lively with lightings and colourful drapes. The event was broadcast live on Loveworld Christian Network and the internet. Pastor of the church, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, at the event, performed songs composed specifically for Haiti children. His performance paved the way for other artistes that performed during the night event.

After his performance, Pastor Onyakhilome thanked the audience for coming to the aid of the distressed people of Haiti at a very critical time. Hear him: “Haiti is adjudged the poorest country in the western hemisphere by economic analysts. But according to scripture analysis, they are not poor. What they lack is gross mental output. With what has been pooled tonight, we will go to Haiti with the much needed relief materials and the gospel. Reports of the mission to Haiti will be brought back and shown to you all.

Every child is our child so we should lend a helping hand. The disaster is one everybody has to rise up to. People can’t afford to close their eyes to the plight of these children. We believe that we can make a difference in their lives.”

The Director, Christ Embassy Music department, Evangelist Kathy Woghiren described the concert as the beginning of the interventions for Haiti children by the church. She was grateful that their talent as ministers of the gospel was being used to raise funds for the needy.

Also at the event to thrill guests and send a message of hope to Haiti earthquake survivors were popular gospel artists like Evangelist Buchi, Sam-Song, T-Sharp, Sinach, Iyke Onka, Tope Bello, Peju Akintola, Joe Praise as well as the Christ Embassy Choir and the Children Church Choir.
